Lee Foster hasn't added a story.
Callen is a 9 month old boy from Petoskey, MI. The last few weeks he has been teething with a vengence and his mom, Nancy, dad, Brandon and big sister, Ali, were doing their best to keep him comfortable through what seemed like regular teething misery.
On Tuesday, October 8, baby Callen took a turn for the worst and mom
Nancy too him to their family doctor who immediately sent them to the
ER at McLaren Northern Michigan. After poking every extremity to get
an IV, they put a "unicorn" iv in the middle of his
forehead. He had 3 X-rays and they showed a retro pharyngeal abscess.
He was taken to the OR at MLNM where they Intubated him and Aero-Med
was called in to airlift him to Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in
Grand Rapids.
He had a CT scan done that night and surgery to drain the
abscess and remove his adenoids Thursday. He was extubated Friday
morning and we were discharged with oral antibiotics. The family
returned home at about 7 PM. At 7:30 the gave him his pain meds and
Augmentin. He had a large coughing fit and coughed up a nice
surprise. They all snuggled in for the night, happy to be home, and he
slept and ate well.
Sunday morning he started getting fussy and was refusing his
bottles, and meds. The family left "dinner" on the stove at
3:30 and took him to the ER again. 2 more X-rays showed the abscess
returned and again he was taken to OR at MLNM to be intubated and
Aero-Med was called again.
Callen has surgery again to remove the abscess on October 14th
and is currently in the hospital recovering from this last surgery.
His family is very excited that he was extubated the morning of
October 15th and they are finally able to hold him again.
We will continue to post updates on the feed below, or you can check out Callen's facebook suport page at https://www.facebook.com/Coinsforcallen
Both Brandon and Nancy have full time jobs and have been unable to work since Wednesday the 9th of October. The costs of food and lodging in Grand Rapids as well as taking leave from work are adding up and they are also expecting insurance co-pays in the tens of thousands.
Please help support this wonderful family and their beautiful baby boy if you can. We thank you so much for your support.
