Neighbors said he had been standing along the side of the Blackburn Road for three days, but no one knew exactly where he came from.  It was hard not to stare when we saw him for the first time, like the awkward gawking of a traffic accident--we could not look away.  His thin malnourished frail frame, was completely hairless, except a small patch of the proud coat he once wore, still clinging to the very top of his head. His claws roughly exposed and protruding from neglect.  He was taken to the Giles County Animal Hospital, where the wisp of a Border Collier was given the name, "Burnie."

Burnie is currently undergoing tests to determine the cause of his hair loss, and being treated with antibiotics.  He is slowly regaining strength, but will take some time and special care to avoid further infection. Without a coat, an animal is exposed to a number of obstacles--even a sunburn.

However, even with the hairless shell of a dog standing before us, one look into his bright eyes and a gentle touch with your hand, this precious baby comes to life, leaning into his caregivers and handlers for a very special hug and attention.

Please share Burnie's story, let's make sure he gets a brand new shiny coat for the Holidays and find him a well, and long deserved Forever Home!

If you would like to meet Burnie, please contact the Giles County Humane Association for more information  931-363-5455.
