This appeal is to help save animals on death row in kill shelters, help with medical bills for animals who have suffered abuse and injury and help with transport costs to move rescued animals to fosters and new homes.

For the past four years, night after night, I have sat up on Facebook, crossposting hundreds of photos of dogs and cats in kill shelters, through no fault of their own, who face death at any time. Many times, I read there is a chip-in to help with a pull fee, to pay for much-needed surgery due to neglect and abuse, or to transport an animal who could be saved to his or her new home or foster home.

All I can do is keep sharing in the hope someone will save the animals.

Many a time, I am reduced to tears by someone desperately appealing for even a relatively small sum to save an animal's life and wish I could help.

But as I have five dogs, four cats, a guinea pig, two degus, a hamster, three mice, a tank of terrapins and four tanks of tropical fish, all my money is spent on caring for their needs. Below are some photos and videos of some of my own animals. Blue, my Blue Merle collie, is deaf and suffers from epileptic seizures, but is the most intelligent dog I've ever known. Millie, in the second video, was rescued from an abusive home herself and is the most wonderful dog.

I thought of starting a fund for animals in honour of my dog, Blue, which will be a lasting legacy in years to come and will remind people that every animal deserves a chance - and also that animals with a disability, such as Blue's deafness, can lead a rich and full life. I am also doing this in memory of Buster, my first rescue dog (1998-2008).

I would love to be able to go on to Facebook, see an appeal for money for an animal in urgent need and donate some money to save a life. I hope anyone reading this will think it's a good idea. I have more than 500 friends on Facebook and 90 per cent of them are involved in animal rescue across the globe, particularly in the UK and the USA. I am a member of many animal rescue and animal welfare groups myself and have so many contacts I know I could put any donations to good use and to the most needy cases.

Please help with Blue's Fund to Help Shelter Animals, even if only a very small amount. It will be very much appreciated and will help save lives.

I have always been brought up with animals from birth and prefer them to most people - here I am with my first dog, Mitzie, with whom I grew up from being only a few weeks old:
