Baby Annan's mother brought her to the US on a medical Visa and on a leap of faith this year. She has three major brain abnormalities and needed surgery. The week she arrived the persons who promised to help pay for the $60,000 surgery backed out. It was terrifying. Children's Hospital Boston would not treat her, until they had the full amount in their hands. So our family took our own leap of faith: and we covered the surgery. The doctors treated one of the abnormalities, her hydrocephalus, and it is not clear still what her prognosis and long term outcome will be.

Annan's family has promised to pay us back our now-gone savings. They have done all they can, asked every family member and friend and supporter in Ethiopia to help. Even with both parents working all they can, they may be "in debt" to us for the rest of their lives, and the fact is, Annan may need surgery again. In fact, she will probably need more than one major medical intervention again. So this great debt they have seems insurmountable.

We are hoping to alleviate that burden for a family who needs help. Annan is a precious miracle, and she needs help. Now, and for her future. In the US, she'd be receiving intensive, regular medical care. She is in Ethiopia now, and instead of regular MRIs to monitor, her mother was sent back to home with a tape measure and told to "measure to her head to see if it's growing too fast." (Which would mean the surgery was not successful and fluid is compressing her brain again).

We love Annan and her fierce, supportive family. With your help, we hope to raise some money to reduce the debt and their burden, so they can save for her next treatment, her next check up (which cannot happen in Ethiopia. They will somehow have to fund a trip to the US again).

Every nickel we raise is appreciated, wanted and needed. There is no amount too small. Thank you for your support.
