We are a family of 3 in DIRE NEED of assistance from anyone who can spare a dime. We are being forced to close the doors of our small business as a result of the negligence of the Village of Magdalena and WE NEED YOUR HELP!

My name is Jonathan Hafey. I am the father of a wonderful 4 year old girl named Nia and husband to my incredible wife and Nia's mother, Dara.

We own the Magdalena Mercantile and Laundromat located on RT60 in Magdalena, New Mexico. See who we are on our Facebook page:

Some of you may have seen the recent news broadcasts covering the well drying up in this small village leaving everyone without water to drink, bathe and so forth. You may view the interview with KOAT, Channel 7 News based in Albuquerque here:

My wife and I have always been entrepreneurs and never one to ask for assistance. We invested everything we had into this endeavor and as a result have had a successful business over the first year since opening our doors.

Our business caters to the needs of our customers providing produce, groceries, full service sign shop, ebay drop off location, knives, tools, handmade clothes and leather goods along with the laundromat. We were doing well till about 9 days ago today when the village well dried up leaving the doors shut on the laundromat, our main source of income.

Since then we have been experiencing the "domino affect", created by loss of income from the laundromat being closed since the lack of water and we have not been able to recuperate.

Since the laundromat provides approximately 65-70% of our daily income the Mercantile (everything but the laundry) cannot support our business by itself. We were informed after being told that we may reopen our doors 2 days later that we must again, close up shop due the the temporary source of water not working with no date given as to how long this will take to repair and resolve.

We are fighters and are not ones to ask for help but we have run out of resources. We do not want to close our doors. This was not a result of our own mistakes or bad decision making but rather the negligence of the Village of Magdalena. We have tried to get assistance thru all the avenues we can think of without any positive result. We have worked with our insurance company to get business loss compensation but since this was not a natural disaster we are not eligible for any help.

Please understand, this is our last resort. We will close our doors shortly if we cannot catch up on our losses. Anything will help, no matter the amount.

We are begging our friends to help us stay open - ANYTHING you can do is appreciated!

Thanks for reading this, Jonathan & Dara Hafey
