September 6, 2011 changed our lives forever. I was on my way to work, 7:45 in the morning. All I can remember was waking up on my steering wheel with the airbag deployed, and I was scared to death. I immediately called my husband to tell him that I’d been in an accident. I don’t remember the collision.

I was 32 weeks pregnant with our first child.

The EMT whisked me to LSU Health Shreveport. Scared and numb, I was strapped down on a spine board while wearing a c-collar. I could not feel our baby moving. When I arrived in the ER, I was surrounded by people – nurses, doctors, physician assistants. I was stripped of my jewelry and clothes – in their place were IVs, monitors and a hospital gown. There were faces everywhere. Finally, I locked eyes with my husband, Trey. Despair.

I was rolled away to get a CT scan. However, it was incomplete. My next memory is waking up in the SICU. Trey said that he named her Sarah. Our baby was a little girl. She was delivered via c-section at 9:31am.

Sarah Claire Touchstone sacrificed her life for me. She lived a precious 36 hours.

We cannot thank the staff in the NICU enough. They loved our baby. After Sarah’s funeral, hundreds of donations were made in her name. Since most of the donations were made toward the NICU, the LSU Health Foundation asked if they could use the money to help purchase an infant transporter. We said yes.

In 2012, the first Run for Sarah raised over $100,000. The funds were donated to LSUHSC, which in turn acquired the infant transport unit it so desperately needed. The transporter was dedicated in Sarah's memory on September 6th, her first birthday.

This year, our goal is to raise money to donate to the NICU for its much needed new mothers' room. The room will be outfitted with hospital grade pumping equipment, comfortable furniture, rocking chairs, and gliders. The space will provide a comfortable, private, and quiet area for mothers to spend time with their newborns.

LSU Foundation will dedicate the room to Sarah Claire Touchstone. Please help us honor our daughter.
