Her Story;
Jasmin was experienceing intolerance to excercise and feeling heart pain and extreme coughing. Jasmin's Mom, Heidi, took her to the Dr Office on Wednesday November 5th. The Dr. found a heart murmur and ordered an EKG and a chest xray. The results showed that Jasmin had an mildely enlarged heart, heart infection, and fluid in her lungs along with the newly diagnosed heart Murmur. Jasmin when to the Cardiologist on Thursday November 15th and had another EKG and an Echocardiogram. The scans showed that Jasmins heart was looking better and Heidi was told to continue with Jasmin's breathing treatments. Heidi expressed concern with how pale Jasmin was and how tired she always seemed to be. The Cardiologist ordered for some labs on her blood and said that he thought she might be Anemic. Heidi and Jasmin left the Office and went to lunch to celebrate that the scan results looked better on her heart. An hour after they left the Cardiologist Office, he called Heidi and informed her that Jasmins white blood cells levels were extremely high and her red blood cell levels were extremely low. Dr. Drake informed Heidi that her daughter Jasmin had Leukemia and that she needed to stop whatever she was doing and take her straight to Childrens Mercy Hospital in Downtown Kansas City, the admittance team was waiting on her.
Jasmin was admitted into Childrens Mercy Hospital on Thursday November 15th and started blood tranfusions that night. Friday, November 16th Jasmin had procedures for a Bone Marrow biopsy, Spinal Tap and her first Chemo Treatment. Jasmin also underwent surgery to implant an inline-port. Jasmin's parents waited all day to hear the results on the testing. They would find out which Leukemia Jasmin had, ALL or AML. Around 530 that evening Jasmins parents were informed that Jasmin had ALL Leukemia. Luckily Jasmin did not have any Leukemia cells in her spinal fluid yet and she would fall under the Standard level of care. Jasmin would not neet a bone marrow transplant or radiation, but she would be undergoing a two year and five month plan of Chemo treatment. Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL) has a 90% cure rate. This means that 90% of the patients with ALL get through the treatment and experience five years without relapsing. If Jasmin gets through those five years with out relapsing, she will be considered cured. Jasmin is five, she will be 8 when the treatments are over, and 12 before she is considered cured, if she does not relapse. Please help with some of the expenses that will be building during this time. Jasmin has a strong moral support system with her family, but her family will need help to pay for the medical bills and the wigs that Jasmin will want.
