On August 8, 2012, Jeff (Skedge) Marlowe was diagnosed with malignant melanoma cancer. This type of cancer typically is a skin cancer but Jeff’s formed as a bump on his right ring finger which eventually grew into a tumor the size of a tennis ball. At the same time a tumor was discovered under his armpit. After a couple of weeks of testing Jeff underwent his first surgery on August 27th in which they removed his right ring finger. Jeff’s next surgery was on September 12th where they removed the tumor and 23 lymph nodes. Of those 23 lymph nodes 20 of those were cancerous. While recuperating from these surgeries, Jeff went in for another routine cat scan on September 24th and then on September 25th he was told the cancer had spread into his lungs. There were currently 5 spots. Beginning the second week of October Jeff will undergo immunotherapy which boosts your immune system to kill the cancer cells. Jeff will be hospitalized during this treatment which will last up to 4 to 7 days as they have to monitor his vitals. This diagnosis has been devastating for the Marlowe family. Jeff has always been healthy and active. He enjoys playing softball, hunting and hanging out with his family especially his 20 month old grandson. There will be a benefit held at Celt’s Pub in Inver Grove Heights on Saturday October 27, 2012, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. This will include a silent auction, a raffle and all the beer you can drink for $10.00 to help raise money to help the Marlowe family deal with Jeff’s medical bills.
