On June 3, 2012 Troy was involved in a near fatal motorcycle accident that left him with multiple injuries, the most severe being the traumatic brain injury. Troy suffered multiple brain bleeds, including a very dangerous hemorrhage in his brain stem. With an initial diagnosis of probable vegetative state, Troy was enrolled in a medication trial out of Wayne State University. We were told not to expect miracles, but given his probable return to normalcy was slim to none, I opted for this Hail Mary. I was told to prepare for a funeral. If we were lucky he would survive, but would be permanently disabled.

Three days after the medication trial was begun, my husband was removed from the ventilator, was attempting to get up out of bed and was responding to his physicians and family. His continued recovery since that day has been nothing short of a miracle.

Today he is able to walk with a cane, though constant dizziness makes his balance an issue. He continues to have short term memory issues and requires rehabilitation. He continues to improve, but it is a slow and laborious process.

Troy has served his community for almost 20 years as a Paramedic and Fire Fighter. Prior to his accident, Troy was a Sergeant Fire Fighter in the city of Riverview and a Full time Critical Care Paramedic for Universal Macomb Ambulance. His goals at this time are to return to his former health so that he can continue in this capacity, and to be able to ride his Harley again.

Troy has been fighting back steadily, and working so very hard to return to the career he loves.

Troy is still several months away from returning to work, and I have been unable to return to work until recently in order to provide affordable care for my husband. I have been his sole caretaker. Unfortunately, medical bills and expenses for care have taken their toll on our small savings. We need help. We are reaching out to the community for that help.
