Middle school students are naturally curious and science class is the perfect environment to engage that curiosity! I want to encourage this by using materials that encourage questioning  and wonder in my classroom. One of the biggest ways to engage students in science is to provide eye-catching demonstrations to hold their interest and to create hands-on labs where they get to discover the concepts on their own. I would like to obtain some chemicals to demonstrate chemistry and owl pellets for dissection. I would like to invest in solar balloons to demonstrate thermal energy and many other hands-on science materials.

Most importantly, I want to include my students in every part of this process. We will meet as a class to decide what we want to learn about, what materials we need, how to shop for them with a budget, where to store them, and how to set them up, and then WE WILL LEARN SCIENCE. I want to teach real-life skills during every step of this project. I want students to learn how to obtain the knowledge that they want. 

Too often our science classes are overlooked and it’s time to add focus and commitment to engaging the power of a hands-on discovery classroom. I want the middle school students at Aloha Huber Park to have a science class that invokes a love for learning that will last a lifetime.
