34 Beaverton Elementary Schools: Ready for School Outreach

Camp Connect provides 1:1 outreach and weekly engagement that ensures students and their families are equipped, prepared and supported to return to school. A major focus is on students who have had limited to no in-person school attendance since March 2020 and serving 1,500 families and 2,000 students attending Beaverton’s 34 elementary schools.

To re-connect students with their elementary schools, Behavioral Health & Wellness (BH&W) Teams will work closely students and their families. This approach grew out of a pilot project funded by the Beaverton Education Foundation last summer.

Through Camp Connect, the BH&W teams used calls, emails, and home visits, addressing barriers, meeting basic needs, and mentoring students and families. The results were impressive, demonstrating that extensive, site-based outreach was incredibly effective getting students to re-engage with school. Last year, BH&W teams worked with 9,300 students (23% of all Beaverton students) who were referred by their teachers for extra support. With their help, 82% of those students increased their attendance. Many students still continue to be heavily impacted by COVID, with your support, we can mentor and support 2,000 elementary students to get the year started off right.
