Andrea Davis hasn't added a story.
We journey through our lives with moments that stand out. These moments could be small gestures of providing food to someone in need, or simply being a trusted friend in hard times. Other times there are moments where the impact is great, and you can change the course of someones life.
Having the opportunity to be a part of Aprons for Gloves is one of these moments where we get to positively impact peoples lives forever.
Not only do I get to participate in a sport that I love and respect, but I get to be a part of a cause that raises money for after-school boxing programs for at-risk youth, young adults class for youth working to improve their mental health, self-defence series for female and LGBTTQQ2S, and Moms and Tots boxing program.
In addition to these programs, East Side Boxing brings in partners like NICCSS-Vancouver Roving Leaders, and Good Food for All. This gym not only provides support through the physical instruction of boxing, but also by providing food, clothing, health care, tutors, and peer-leadership.
I am overwhelmed with admiration and gratitude for the work this gym does in our community, and I am going to train hard and fight even harder for this cause!
Help me blow past the minimum of $2000 to participate in this event and let's help East Side Boxing continue to help those in need to see their potential and rise up to succeed.
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2019
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
