Please support a photographer's move near beautiful Lake Pend Oreille in Idaho! I'm traveling there to help plan/work a permaculture cooperative as well as research the vast geologic/glacial treasures and to expand my portfolio of nature photography.

Greetings! I'm Gabrielle Jones Price and I've been a media analyst for the last 7 years and a photographer for 30. I study deep ecology and permaculture principles and with your help, I'd like to put this new knowledge to work for others in northern Idaho.

From 2011-13, I traveled to many areas of the country in search of human stories during major changes in our country's history as well as our climate. The last several years I've attempted to put roots down among a community in my own back yard in southern Indiana. What I've discovered in these last 5 years is that my real tribe is quite literally scattered across the globe.

An amazing member of my scattered tribe and her significant other have offered a place to put roots down on their 10 acre farmstead in northern Idaho. This is a part of the country I've yet to visit but have flown over on route to Portland, another beautiful area of Cascadia I've always carried with me. It was this area that inspired me to choose southern Indiana after my travels in 2013. It reminded me of the lush beauty in Oregon and it also has a stellar permaculture community. A few mentors there I am eternally grateful to have met and will always call friends.

But I've arrived in a place where my skills are needed in northern Idaho and I hope you'll help me answer the call.

It is possible I will discover Northern Idaho holds treasures that may pale in comparison to the beauty I witnessed in Oregon and northern California. There are geological treasures in Idaho and surrounding glacial landscapes that I am excited to explore with my new perspective and of course, my cameras. A major point of geological interest in the area is Lake Pend Oreille and not too much further away, Glacier National Park.

My dream has always been a simple one: to be a subsistence farmer. As a media analyst, I've also been 'digging' for deeper truths in a different analysis: deep ecology and depth psychology study. My focus on permaculture principles led me to the work of some brilliant people whose research has been an absolute inspiration to me this year. There will be more about this in future posts, videos and podcasts!

This move is a big decision and not one I've taken lightly. It has taken time for family to warm to the idea but they are excited and my friends are incredibly supportive. Saying yes is the easy part. I'm asking you to help me actualize this journey: by assisting me with seed money to get my small collection of 'stuff' out there, acquisition of needs for this 'flat-lander' once I arrive in the mountains. The rest will be used to start building!

Once in Idaho, I'll require a used 4wd vehicle [nothing pretty but functional]. These aren't the Appalachian mountains my mother's family hailed from and I grew to love in my youth. These are the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, where I'm told there are extra seasons including 'mud season'. A compact car just is not going to cut the mustard -- as evidenced in this video from my host -- to prepare me for what to expect!

However, I shall not be moved by a little mud!

A door is wide open for me to walk through and grab hold of my dream. With a little help from friends and readers, I can grab it with both hands and share this adventure...both in book form and other forms of media to come! There are a few sites on my bucket list out west and I'd like to record these experiences to share with you as well.

Any amount is generous, appreciated and allows me to share my story with a wider audience. I have a lot of work ahead of me! Your generous assistance will set in motion a great turning point for this analyst, writer, photographer and soon to be farmer!

Thank you for reading and sharing this with others. Much more to come!
