To the Ryerson family,

It has recently been brought to the attention of many students on one of the official Ryerson student Facebook pages that there are theives tormenting those among us. A few students have gone to their exams and followed the strict instruction of parting with their belongings, only to return and find valuable technologies missing from their bags.

If you can only imagine the distress and discomfort that follows losing your personal laptop to an unknown individual; all saved assignments, personal writing, photographs and memories removed from your life permanently. It certainly is not a pleasant way to begin the break.

This fund is being set up because it has been noted that Ryerson students are incredibly loving, accepting and helpful. This hopeful charity is being arranged to scratch a dent in the amounting stresses that weigh our fellow students down as a means of showing the true spirit of what it is to be a Ryerson student. Everyone needs a helping hand once in a while, and this season I feel it is of the best interest of our brothers and sisters that we help each other out. The community that is constantly being shaped around us deserves to be strengthened with the positivity that, despite the stress of our exhausting education, will never fade.

We can hope that those responsible for these crimes are discovered, but at the end of the day, it is rare to solve a problem that stems from within an individual. To go beyond the psychological/social problem of thievery, let's focus on solving the problems of those who are temporarily displaced.

It is the holidays, and it is exam period - as students, most have little in their bank accounts and even less in their wallets. It is not expected of anyone to contribute to this fund, but for the sake of pure inspiration, I ask that anyone who can, please help!

If the laptops are returned, I promise to issue 100% of donation to those who contributed.

Thank-you all for being exactly who you are, whether you contribute or not.
