Harriet is a 12-14 year old blind chihuahua who was saved from death row in early March. I was very new to rescue back then and really knew nothing! What I did know, however, was that Harriet's sad little face was haunting me at night! I waited, watched and pledged hoping that someone would come along and help this poor girl but no one came! Finally, I contacted my friend Janis Cortese-Tollis and told her I couldn't sleep and we needed to help Harriet! She contacted some rescue affiliates she knew and had Harriet pulled for me! What we didn't know was how sick she was or that she would require extensive vetting (30 days quarenteen at the vet) due to a highly contagious and very serious upper respiratory illness that was running through MACC! How this old girl survived that still amazes me when so many dogs much younger died from it; but I can tell you this baby has tons of life left in her! We recently had extensive dental work done so she could feel better and so the poisons would stop running through her blood stream from the infectious teeth. She has literally become a new, playful dog! Her vet bills are well over $4,000 and although we have raised about $1,200 through another fund raiser, we still need help! Harriet deserves to live out the rest of her life happy and healthy and we intend to see that she does! I now understand how hard it is for rescues to pull injured or dick animals! Please help us so we can continue pledging and helping others!
