DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

DECA prepares the next generation to be:

  • Academically Prepared – DECA members are ambitious, high achieving leaders equipped to conquer the challenges of their ambitions.
  • Community Oriented – Recognizing the benefit of service and responsibility to the community, DECA members continually impact and improve their local and broader communities.
  • Professionally Responsible – DECA members are poised professionals with integrity and high standards.
  • Experienced Leaders – DECA members are equipped to effectively influence their peers and provide leadership in a business setting.

The students had different projects. Some did Merit Award Projects and the others did group projects on University High School's DECA Chapter.

Jessica Johnson and Jessica Onwenu both completed the Merit Awards Project. In that competition category they both had a total of 22 projects to do, which were split into different sections of Bronze, Silver and Gold. When they finished all their hard work it was then time to present their Gold projects to the judges. They each had 15 minutes to present their projects and answer any questions that the judges had for them.

Bria Gregory, Kendal Mallette, and Monae Hawthorne did a group project that was a scrapbook of 36 events that UHS DECA has done. With those 36 events, they were broken down into 6 sections. They presented two of their 36 events to the judges and it was 10 minutes long and they had 5 minutes for questions. The group members say that the projects was stressful and fun. They would absolutely do it again, but much much differently.

The students did great on their projects and the reward for them doing good is going to DECA's International Career Development Conference in Atlanta, Georgia to compete against other students. For the students to go to Atlanta, there are expenses that we need help paying for. Any and everything counts and we will appreciate it.
