Mike was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at age 16 and nearly lost his life twice due to complications related to this debilitating illness. By the age of 17, he had already received two blood transfusions. Mike had dreams of becoming a pilot in the Canadian Armed Forces but was forced to change this path after his condition got worse. Unfortunately, a few years later, Mike experienced further bad luck, including having his car vandalized and written off, and a house fire which left him homeless. After 6 months of hard work, he purchased a used car. Hoping to turn his luck around, Mike moved out West. He worked his way out of debt, and was able to purchase a newer car. Mike has always been a car enthusiast and this was the car of his dreams. This car made Mike feel like he was finally making it. Sadly, yet again, Mike's disease has intervened and he recently spent two months in and out of hospital, requiring expensive medications, which has made things tight financially. Unfortunately these medications are not covered. During this time, he was diagnosed with iritis, a painful inflammation of the Iris, which is a complication of Crohn's disease. Mike's dream car is having some issues, the point of this fundraiser is to help him get it fixed and get back on his feet. The stress of the situation is not helping his illness and Mike is beginning to feel hopeless again. Mike is a hardworking guy and isn't really one to ask for help. He doesn't really hesitate to help others (including animals), however, and just needs a bit of help himself right now. Mike is an animal lover, and rescued his three-legged cat named Kitler, before he could be put down. They share an unbreakable bond.
