Hi, I’m GW, the cat! I've been living on the street for quite a few years and now I'm in desperate need of dental work. Can you help me get to the vet? More ...

Hi, I’m GW, the cat.

When most people see me, they see a “tough-looking cat” – perhaps this is why I was left on the street for so long. But my sheer size and battles scars are just a result of a difficult life, and, to be honest, all I really want is a snuggle… and some dental work.

Look, I’m hardly one to complain, but ouch! Do my teeth HURT! I’m having trouble eating, I’m drooling – I can’t even clean myself properly!

That’s why I’m writing this. I really need your help!

See, here’s my story: I’m 7 years old. I was loved once, had a family, but things changed, and the next thing I knew I was cruising the Toronto streets looking for my next meal. Most people ignored me, and because of that I became very wary of humans.

Two years ago a girl moved into my neighborhood. We crossed paths on the street one day, and she stopped and tried to talk to me. I had to pretend I didn’t speak her language, and feigned smelling a tire in the hope that she would continue on her way. With me giving her the cold shoulder, she went into her house, but came out moments later shaking a container of delicious smelling biscuits. I was indeed hungry, but I waited until she had poured the biscuits out and left. Then I went and gobbled them all up!

I think I must have charmed this girl with my good looks and mystique because she started leaving food out for me every night and, in the winter, she set up a comfy spot on the porch for me. But, I don’t know, I just wasn’t ready for another human in my life. I decided to continue my nomadic lifestyle and take shelter from the elements elsewhere. If we saw each other, I ran away. I never let her get too close.

But a few months ago things took a turn for the worse. My mouth really started hurting and I was loosing fights. With no one else to turn to, I went to the porch and waited patiently until the girl came out. When she spotted me, I meowed sadly and she knew something was wrong.

I was really hungry so I waited for my usual kibble. But instead she dished me up this magical soft, wet, pungent deliciousness! So gentle on my sore mouth!

Well, what can I say? I was hooked. I took to sleeping on the door mat before she realized and brought me out a bed of my own. She approached me for a snuggle and I gave in. Next thing I knew I was sitting on her lap! It all happened so quickly.

She kinda tricked me into a cat carrier one day, but then she took me to a little rescue space called All Creatures Rescue. I have my own room here, which is nice. I’m just basically chilling out and rejuvenating, but soon I’ll be going to the vet to get my teeth done.

I’m setting this page up because the girl who’s helping me out – and paying for my bills – is just a young, regular woman. She's not part of a rescue group or anything. She could have left me on the street like everyone else did, but instead she’s facing $600 minimum for dental work – with the possibility of me needing x-rays and blood work, which will make it even more.

I figured if I could just get my story out there, maybe everyone could chip in a couple of bucks? Anything to lessen the financial strain. And I know she would appreciate it immensely.

Once my dental work is done, and I’m feeling much better, then I’ll decide on some sort of permanent residency. I think I’m too old these days for the street life. And plus, these little fleecy blankets are just so soft on the paws!

Anyways, I got to run because Daniel, the orange tabby, wants to check his email before the humans wake up.

Thanks so much for reading,

Much love, GW the cat.
