Angee Mima hasn't added a story.
As a volunteer at the Grace Foundation of Northern CA, I instantly fell in love with Reba, a smaller than average, pregnant chihuahua. I have never had a dog before, but that didn't stop me from volunteering to be her foster throughout her pregnancy. On 09/12/2012, Reba gave birth to three little puppies: Patsy, Presley and Parton.
Parton was born backwards and wasn't breathing. We literally breathed life into this sweet, beautiful little runt of the litter. Parton was adopted by my Grandparents, and, when my Grandmother passed away in April 2013, Parton became a "family" dog and came to live with my parents. Parton just celebrated his one year birthday and is happy and healthy - or so we thought.
I came home from work on Monday 10/21/2013, and Parton was not walking. And when forced to walk, he was only walking on three legs. I immediately took Parton to the vet and he was diagnosed, just like his mommy Reba, with Grade 4 Luxating Patella in his left hind leg. It is not correctable by popping the Patella back into joint since it is assessed as Grade 4. He will require surgery.
None of the local vets in my hometown perform Sulcoplasties, or, the surgery to fix a Luxating Patella. To add to the mix, Parton requires a specialized surgeon who is trained to operate on tiny, three pound dogs like Parton. He is unusually small for his breed.
I have located a vet who is ready, willing and capable of performing the surgery Parton requires - to the tune of $1,900.00 (it will be more if additional care is required). I do not have the financial means to pay for Parton's medically necessary emergency surgery. If he does not receive a Sulcoplasty, we will be forced to euthanize him as he is in significant pain and his quality of life has already greatly diminished.
A friend reminded me today that my "Karma Bank" is full, as I have dedicated many years of my life to helping animals in need. In addition to the Grace Foundation, I have volunteered my time to the Sacramento County Animal Shelter and FieldHaven Feline Rescue. I am that crazy lady who shows up at your yard sale begging for left over stuffed animals so I can take them to the puppies at the shelters. I'm the one who spends down to my last dime on doggy treats at the Dollar Store to sneak to the pups along with their new toys :) I would like to think that my Karma Bank has quite the savings built up. I am dedictated to helping animals in need, but now, my animal - my furchild - is in need. And I am humbly asking for your help.
From the bottom of my heart, Thank you.
