Two hundred babies born in Wayne County every year don’t live to see their first birthdays. At the Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center, our goal is for all children to live through their first birthdays and many more.
The statistics are startling:

• Nearly 3,000 babies born in Wayne County in 2011 were born too small and too soon.

• More than 8,000 women who gave birth in Wayne County in 2010 had less than adequate prenatal care.

• In Michigan, one out of three children is overweight.

The children are our future, and these statistics paint a bleak picture. CHASS provides comprehensive, affordable, quality care to more than 12,000 families; 988 of our clients are under the age of five.

• 9% of our clients are pregnant and receiving pre natal care.
• 65% of our clients live in poverty.
• 10% of our clients receive supplemental nutrition benefits through the Women, Infant and Children (WIC) program.

Funds raised through this campaign will offset the cost of delivering essential health care services including prenatal care, immunizations and well-child checkups. These crucial services help children build a solid foundation for a healthy start in life. Your support ensures that every child we serve will blow out their first candle.
