You have CANCER!!! Those dreadful words I will forever play over and over in my head! Talk about a shocker! I am the healthiest I have ever been. I eat a very strict gluten-free, dairy-free, organic diet and I workout 3-4 times per week. I'm looking fabulous in my new body after loosing 100lbs. No symptoms, no pain not even a small inclination this disease was growing inside of me. One of the problems with ovarian cancer is that the symptoms are very vague and are often confused with other symptoms so the initial warning signs go without notice. This is a disease that, at its worst, can ravage you. Every woman with ovarian cancer has a story and this one is mine.

On Feb 3, 2013 (Super Bowl Day) I decided to go to the Emergency Room because I was having trouble with my food getting stuck for a couple of weeks and I kept putting it off. They ordered a CT scan of my abdomen and a chest x-ray. After waiting for the results the doctor finally came back and said "we are concerned about what we saw on your CT scan. There is a large tumor mass on your right ovary. I said, “you must be talking about the left ovary because I have had some minor issues in the past with ovarian cysts on that ovary, so I think it's just a cyst”. "No, he replied it's your right side. The next step is to do a cancer marker called CA-125 a blood test specifically designed to detect cancer of the ovaries.” To my surprise the CA-125 came back exceptionally high with a level over 16000 U/ml. In general, a level above 35 U/ml is considered abnormal. The doctor said "it looks like this might be cancer and we want to admit you into the hospital to run more test. With the cancer marker being so high and the tumor so large the feeling of doom immediately came over me and I knew in my heart the life I once knew would forever be changed. I cried out, “God please have mercy and spare my life”! I prayed over and over throughout the night as I cried myself to sleep. When I awoke I hoped I was in the midst of an awful nightmare but it was REAL! All I could think about was the painful miserable death I watched my father, aunt and two grandmothers suffer through! This dreadful dis-ease has peeked its ugly face again and has come back to haunt our family, but this time it was happening to me.

Ovarian cancer is an aggressive cancer and this type of tumor has been known to grow rapidly to weigh 100lbs in some cases and cause pressure on other vital organs. My oncologist has advised me to have surgery to remove the tumor and follow up with chemotherapy. Initially, I didn’t know what to do because I don’t agree with treating the body with poison, nor has it proven to be effective in the treatment of most cancers. Immediately, I had a decision to make... did I want to live or did I want to die? My choice was obvious. Coming home from the hospital, I knew I must take charge of my life and take an active role in my treatment. After doing some extensive research on cancer causes including genetic factors, lifestyle and diet (toxicity and nutritional deficiency). I realize cancer is a complicated disease and need to be approached with a personalized treatment program. As cancer research advances, the therapies and treatments available to cancer patients will continue to change. But what I have found is most doctors just want to treat the type of cancer you have, with the same generalized approach…slash, burn and poison (surgery, radiation and chemo) which wipes out your already weakened immune system, liver functions and good cells. The very body functions you need to help remove the toxicity so the body can heal. I am more interested in treating my cancer naturally and trusting in the body’s inherent wisdom to heal and rejuvenate itself (treating the person, not the disease) back to perfect health. But of course, insurance will not pay a penny toward alternative and complimentary treatments even though they have proven to be more effective than traditional therapies.

I have been blessed with a wonderful family and career! I’m a native of Chicago, IL and mother of two and grandmother. Licensed as a Catastrophe Adjuster since 2006 my career path has taken me across the country to help homeowners recover from major disasters such as Hurricane Karina, Rita, Ike and Sandy. In addition, I’m a member of FEMA's National Disaster Preparedness Coalition and National Association of Professional Women. It brings me great joy to have helped hundreds of victims during their time of need but now I'm in need of help. I have exhausted all of my resources on my cancer care and I'm afraid if I don't get help with medical cost I will not survive this beast called CANCER! The only way I will have a fighting chance to win this battle is with your help! No amount is too small all are welcomed and appreciated!
