I am raising funds to build an affordable UFO monitoring or "skywatch" station. As a MUFON field investigator, I'm looking to create easy to use technology that will help us gather evidence in repeated sighting locations.
I am raising funds to build an affordable UFO monitoring or "skywatch" station. As a MUFON field investigator, I'm looking to create easy to use technology that will help us follow up on some of the many cases where sightings occur again and again in the same locations.

I made a prototype of this unit back in 2011. The still shot for this project is one of about 25,000 images captured during testing of the prototype version, using a single Canon G3 camera modified for infrared and connected to an IBM T42 laptop. Check out this YouTube video, made from a compilation of images back in 2011: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XmiwbjmTCM

The goal for this phase of the project is to implement a higher quality, more fully automated version of the system, supporting both infrared and visible light, but still using consumer cameras, generic laptops, and freeware software development kits (like the Canon CHDK). I have the technical background in electronics hardware and software design to make it happen.

The final design, including CHDK software source, will be made available to the public so others can reproduce the same results.

Note that the resulting solution could also be used for more terrestrial purposes, including wildlife monitoring. It could also prove useful for paranormal investigation (a.k.a. "ghosthunting").

Contributors will (at their discretion) have their names added to the contributor credits in the instructional and promotional videos that will accompany the final design. I will also include honorable mentions in the user manual. I will also provide an "I Helped Build the UFO Skywatch Monitor" T-shirt, in the size of your choice (red, white, or black), for anyone contributing $50 or more.

Thanks in advance to the volunteers from Strange Event Institute who are helping with the implementation of the new version.
