Gavin was born full term, a healthy happy 8lb 5oz baby boy. Everything seemed perfect for the first 12 hours. Then we were living our worst nightmare...at least back then it seemed like a nightmare! He had a rare disorder, a Urea Cycle Defect (Ornithine Transcarbamylase Deficiency - OTC). Over his first 17 months of life he faced many surgeries, hospitalizations, comas, extreme brain damage and so much more. He had a liver transplant when he was 17 months old; this would help us stop the brain swelling and the tricky low protein diet. He is now a very healthy, happy 5 year old who has many medical diagnoses, a few being Dystonia and Cerebral Palsy. We are looking into getting his first electric chair within the year! He is a brother to Isabel, who is 10. He attends school daily for half the day. Never feel sorry for him, because he is a strong fighter! Gavin is only getting bigger and I am not always going to be able to lift him into my car. We are currently looking into getting him an electric wheelchair which means we will need to go from our SUV to a VAN.
