Molly is an amazing young woman battling Ewing Sarcoma cancer. This is the story of her journey…
In May 2011, Molly graduated from Buffalo State College with academic honors and a degree in Hospitality and Tourism. As a student athlete, Molly was a 5 year member of the Buffalo State woman’s lacrosse team, and was named captain for 2 years of her tenure.
After graduation, Molly moved to San Clemente, CA to experience a true California beach town life. She worked 3 jobs to pay the rent, but it was worth it pursue her dreams.
Unfortunately that dream came to a sudden and abrupt halt when she was diagnosed with Ewing Sarcoma Cancer in October, 2011. Molly's tumor was in her left calf. Ewing Sarcoma is a somewhat rare and fast growing cancer.
Molly chose to stay in California for treatments at one of the best cancer centers in the state, UCI Irvine. From 11/2011 to 4/2012 Molly went through chemotherapy with the hope that it would shrink the tumor enough to be removed through surgery. After completing chemotherapy, Molly had surgery to remove the remaining tumor in May 2012. The surgery was deemed a success in that the cancerous tumor was removed. However, as a result of the surgery Molly was left with an ulcerated heel and an incision wound that wasn't healing.
Then a month after surgery, Molly learned that the cancer had spread to her lungs and there was another tumor behind her left knee.
Molly began more aggressive chemo, which after 2 weeks caused such severe side effects that she was hospitalized. Because chemo decreases the body's ability to heal, her surgery related wounds were not healing, causing infections and other complications.
Molly has bravely endured some of the most painful procedures. This is not the life she planned but the life she has been given…. and she is fighting this with all her heart.
Molly recently returned to her home in NY to be closer to family and friends. She is continuing her treatment at Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo.
As we all can imagine, Molly’s illness has taken such an immense toll on her and her family physically and emotionally. What we are trying to avoid is the monetary toll that the medical bills and travel expenses will cause for them.
We are proud to call Molly a dear friend and stand by her in these difficult times.
Thank you sincerely for joining us in our efforts and generously offering your support.
