Vanessa was admitted to Kenosha Memorial Hospital on Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 because she had some chest pain and had been feeling tired for a couple of weeks. While in the ER, they ran some tests and noticed that her blood platelets were low and her liver enzymes were elevated. Also, her spleen was enlarged which was causing the chest pains. After four days of tests, she was feeling better and was released on Friday, October 12th, to go home with what they thought was a virus similar to mono. The next morning we received a call that nothing could have prepared us for: Dr. Knight had got some test results back from California and that we needed to come see him that morning. We were told the cells that had been tested were malignant and that they believed she had Acute Lymphoblastomic Leukemia. He proceeded to tell us that it would be hard, that we would be tested, but that this disease is beatable! We are in for a marathon, not a 100 yard dash. The following day, Sunday, October 14th, Vanessa was admitted to Froedtert Hospital, the Medical College of Wisconsin, where she will undergo treatment and testing as we fight to beat this disease. Please keep her and our family in your prayers. We are setting up this site to help offset some of those little costs that just seem to add up during times like these. The two major costs cropping up as of late are for gas and food. Gas is pretty obvious, we are all feeling it, but with Valerie (Vanessa's Sis) coming in from Kenosha multiple times a week, Mike and Judy (V's parents) coming in from Oconomowoc, and obviously Scott (hubbie) from Kenosha as well it adds up quickly. The second is food, as we are battling this cancer from many directions, what Vanessa eats is of utmost importance. The family has chosen Outpost Coop in Milwaukee to be the source of a wholistic, organic, no refined sugars artillery. These weapons don't come cheap, however, so that is where you come in! Please donate whatever you can, send a loving hug with it and we will all be drinking wine with Vanessa soon enough :) GO VANESSA!!!
