Starting off small, hoping to go big! My idea for Kiera's fund is "through tragedy and loss comes life." In the last three years the Santa Cruz family has watched helplessly as two of their beloved daughters have fallen (or are falling) to Cancer. With Cord Blood Banking, this tragedy could be preventable with our future children. There is NO greater gift than the gift of LIFE! We are reaching out, for the future, in hopes that family, friends and community will come together to give our little family a little peace of mind at night as we go through the most trying time while being pregnant; as Nina is losing a sister to numerous types of cancer. "I will not stand here an do nothing about it. My biggest fears of EVER having a daughter is losing her to the cancer that so many of the female family members have faced." -Nina (Kiera's mother) Blessed with a beautiful son in 2010, she had faced losing a cousin before she could be matched as a donor due to pregnancy. Since then she has looked for ways to try to help women who were in her situation, she calls "HIGH RISK" blood lines. "You can't ignore the loss of a loved one, and risk losing sleep over something that should make you happy and proud...Losing happiness in such a blessing- wears you down." So please, the Turley family is asking that rather than giving a gift that is breakable, loseable, outgrowable, that you give their daughter the opportunity an hope for a future that is CANCER FREE...Atleast a fighting chance, and a step up from what her relatives had... "With todays technology, it is stupid of me not to atleast try!" The best part about Cord Banking is today they have the option to use the stem cells to help relatives if they are a match. The cost to do this is aprox. 700-1200 more. But is it worth it to save the life of a close family member??? OF COURSE!!! The total cost of cord blood banking for 20-25 years ranges from $3,250-$7,850. "IF we don't raise enough money, there is now the option they didn't have back when my son was born, which is a payment plan. It is what it is, I just have to hope for the best! Even if we just raise enough for the enrollment and down payment I will be happy! In my heart, EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS!"
