LEARN Science & Math Club hasn't added a story.

It’s time to rev our engines for 2025!  Thanks to you, we exceeded our 2024 target, giving 86 kids the #Power2Play.   This year, let’s get 80+ kids with movement limitations racing!

Give Kids the Gift of Movement

Geeks for Kids is an initiative of LEARN, a small, all-volunteer nonprofit with a big dream – to give kids with mobility challenges the #Power2Play. With the help of volunteers and donors like you, we build mini-race cars for kids who otherwise can’t get around on their own. Join us in the campaign to get these kids racing!

Give Kids Like Petra the #Power2Play!

Imagine what it would be like if your child could not race around, explore and play. What would it cost your child’s physical, intellectual and social development if they could not move?

That is what life was like for 2-year-old Petra, shown at top right, until this spring. Petra is bubbly, busy and curious.  She can do most anything any other toddler can do except use her right arm.  (That arm did not grow properly before she was born.)  Yes, she so wants to race around and play with her baby sister and her neighborhood friends.

Now, she can.  Petra received her custom car in June, and she was zipping around our track like a pro within minutes.

Kids Are Waiting Right Now

Millions of American kids are sidelined because they too have movement limitations. More than 96,000 kids in Missouri and Kansas alone have physical disabilities, according to a 2012 study from Child Trends. Together, we can be a driving force and give them the freedom to do what all kids should do - play.

Why $381,662?

It will cost $500,000 to build 80+ cars and to develop the new tech we are hoping to release this year. We have raised $118,338 so far. So, we need to raise an additional $381,662 to get our kids racing.

Get Involved

It takes a village – maybe even a small city – to fulfill our mission to build as many customized, electric cars and other assistive devices for kids with mobility limitations as we can.  Whether you are an engineer, software developer, roboticist, mechanic, physical therapist, marketer, designer, fundraiser, project manager, seamstress , corporate sponsors, individual donors and other good-hearted souls to rise to the challenge. To build great cars that empower lots of little kids, we need you!

There are so many ways to get involved in Geeks for Kids. You can:

  • Build a Car
  • Recruit Corporate Sponsors
  • Join the Design Team or Business Leaders Board
  • Sign Your Kids up to Invent for Good
  • Or, Refer a Kid Who Would Benefit from a Car

To learn more about Geeks for Kids and the cars we are building, visit our Geeks for Kids subsite.

Join the Race!

Get in the driver’s seat! Help make Geeks for Kids an even bigger success by sharing this fundraiser and by spreading the news on social media. Use our hashtags to help us build awareness:  #GeeksForKids, #Power2Play and #BeADrivingForce.

100% of your donations goes straight to getting kids with movement limitations racing.  Each car is a gift,  FREE to the child and his/her family.

Geeks For Kids is a LEARN Science & Math Club program. LEARN Science & Math Club  is a non-profit that has been providing kids with rich, hands-on STEM experiences since 2004.

Last Year's Stats

In the 2024 Geeks for Kids Build season, our team of Super Geeks did themselves proud. Over the course of 12 months, our all-volunteer management team of 29 people combined with the power of 294 volunteers, 22 corporate sponsors and hundreds of individual donors like you:

  • Raised over $288,000
  • Contributed in over 25,700 labor hours
  • To give 86 kids:
    • The #Power2Play and
    • Endless joy, freedom and growth.

This Year's Plan

We are happy to report that the 2025 Geeks for Kids build season is already off to a roaring start. As of this writing (on October 8, 2024), we have hosted our 1st Build event of the year, have 24 new cars under production, and hosted our annual All Abilities Trunk or Treat and Car Giveaway (where we gave 5 more kids the #Power2Play).  In addition, our Super Geeks have so many exciting new things under development. They are designing;

  • A new and improved head-movement-directed drive system
  • A next-gen vehicle for kids up to the age of 18
  • Expanded collision prevention systems
  • A new distribution network to deliver more cars to more kids in faraway places
  • Process improvements that allow us to build cars more quickly
  • And, so much more!

We are on track to meet our goal of getting 80+ kids with movement limitations racing by July of 2025.  Together, we can turbocharge this year and deliver more cars to more kids than ever before!

The Cost

Our cars cost $4,175 on average to build. The kids and their families, however, pay nothing.  We need your help to make sure every kid who applies for a car gets one!  The more money we raise, the more cars we can build.  Together, we can get kids with movement limitations racing! Join the campaign today.

The cost of Geeks for Kids components

Of course, every dollar helps! We bundle together small donations to build big dreams. As the list above shows, we can do a lot with donations of just about any size.

Time to Get 2025's Kids Racing!

Piper is waiting for her new ride.

Two-year-old Piper is ready to roll.  She loves to move - from dancing to swinging to playing with friends, but she just can't move very fast.  So, let's give her the #Power2Play!
