SODA: Student Organ Donation Advocates hasn't added a story.
SODA: Student Organ Donation Advocates is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that inspires and supports student-led organ donation education and registration efforts through high school and college chapters.
In the United States, there are 112,568 people on the waiting list for an organ donation, and only 19,267 people are registered as organ donors. SODA: Student Organ Donation Advocates recognizes the critical organ donation shortage in the United States and aims to reduce that shortage by inspiring students across the country to educate themselves about organ donation, advocate for becoming a donor, and register as donors themselves.
SODA believes students are an untapped population with the potential to help reduce the critical organ shortage. Since 2014, SODA has been partnering with Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) across the country in order to support student-led organ donation advocacy chapters as they conduct education and registration initiatives within their local campuses and communities. SODA connects chapters to local OPO resources, provides supplies to host events and spread awareness, and reimburses event expenses.
Making a contribution to SODA will directly impact SODA’s growth and chapters' ability to increase the lifesaving results of SODA mission.
Help us advocate for organ donation today by participating in and promoting our Virtual 5k Walk/Run...for their lives!
Organ transplants save lives! Here are some stories describing why SODA’s student leaders are passionate about organ donation advocacy:
Matt Thomas's dad was critically ill until he received three separate life-saving transplants. It was because of generous donors that his dad is alive. Because of SODA, Matt has been able to connect with others who care about the lifesaving results of organ donation, advocate for organ donation in honor of his dad, and share his passion with his peers. Matt is the founder and current president of West Virginia University's SODA chapter. | Nicole Antaya was desperately in need of a lung transplant and was saved by a double long donor. Today, she is able to spend time with family and friends, pursue her passion for cooking and gardening, and study social work. Because of SODA, she has been able to advocate for organ donation in honor of her donor and the gift she received and share her passion with her peers. Nicole is the founder and former president of Quinnipiac University's SODA chapter. |
