During these unprecedented times the Victoria non-profit, the Food Eco District (FED) looks to support our fellow community members by assisting Greater Victoria residents with developing their own food gardens!
Being the start of the growing season, we look to support families and laid off workers by providing home-based start up food gardens using simple and affordable supplies. While the supply chain of food to the island has not been impacted by COVID-19, the mass layoffs present a tougher challenge in the months ahead. On average, 53% of people in Canada currently live paycheck to paycheck and especially in Victoria where rents are high, many will struggle to afford ongoing access to fresh, healthy foods.
We will provide 500 homes with food gardens. We have a group of amazing volunteers who will be assisting with the installs of the gardens but we need your help to cover the costs of garden materials.
Each garden kit includes:
- 2 - 5 round planters
- Soil
- 3 starter plants
- Seeds
- Delivery of materials
- Initial consult & info package
- Access to webseries and #MyFEDFarm chatroom
