update: 310.00 raised via PayPal, 3 mailed contributions coming
Many know I have many horses & ponies here (over 40) ,that were referred to us over the years since 2003 by local veterinarians, local surrenders & rescues & slaughter bound horses.
We are NOT a non profit. (paperwork in near ready to
file, however thats a big chunk i cannot justify letting go right now )
The horses come first.
All expenses are paid out of pocket and
has been since 2003 here in Oklahoma. That of course is always a
strain. However this year more so with some of my continued health
issues and medical bills on top of our insurance and more tests in the
coming months.
Normally we have a good portion of our yearly hay ,this year we do not.
Round bales are our biggest expense.
We feed 300 rounds per
year. not counting squares.
I had a long talk with my hay provider this morning ..
he can
provide me with 150 rounds @40 each delivered in the next 2 weeks.
$6000.00 (last yrs cost $11,500)
However I need to somehow come
up with the extra money and we are lacking that due to my personal
expenses as mentioned above. He is currently paid $1000 a month but
need to pay a large portion to claim the 150 bales.
We are not frivolous folks, we dont drive new trucks to sooth a ego trip, ours get us where we need to go just fine. We don't go on vacation. We don't have a showcase home, we simply get by with the basic needs to provide for the horses here.
Here is just some of what we do.
(Billie & Precious) We drove over 7 hrs round trip to get Billie (5 at the time) & Precious (20). Stopping often on the return trip they were so weak. Several rescues were contacted about taking them with no response or a simple No.
Willow (late 20's) was in a killpen. not bought by the killpen. owners dropped her off. She had burns on her legs, starved near to death. Super sweet loving girl ...Sadly we had to say our goodbyes earlier this year.
Weve taken in many with Leg injuries, Hoof injuries, body injuries, Head injuries:
*Note* I don't need the lecture on rehoming / adopting I have
attempted this for years now with little luck with a few only due to
many here are special needs. (missing eyes, teeth, old leg injuries,
arthritis, you know the getting old aches and pains the same as we
will have one day)
Sadly folks don't like contracts, or they simply want to flip
(resell) said horses. Some even think they should be free . I will
not jeopardize these horses of falling into the wrong hands or even
ending back in the slaughter pipeline*
