Robert Hubert hasn't added a story.
This is our first, and possibly our most decisive, fundraising campaign. For two years, the Center on the Common (a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization) has provided a vibrant presence in our town center in one of our most beautiful historic buildings. Whether it is our superb series of concerts with award winning regional musicians, our monthly exhibits feauring our local artists or our after school art and music program, there is always something happening for our community at the Center on the Common.
Please help us keep arts alive at the Center with a gift of any amount before December 31st. We have an exciting pledge from our Board of Directors to match the first $3,000 donated to the campaign dollar for dollar. We also have some great incentives for our donors (please see the "perks" column on the right). For more information on the Center and our relationship to the Town, please see the additional information below and visit our web site at www.centeronthecommon.org. If you prefer, donation checks may be sent to Center on the Common, 7 Fairbank Street, Harvard, MA 01451> ALL CONTRIBUTIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE
The Center on the Common and the Town of Harvard
Two years ago, the Center on the Common, a private non-profit corporation, leased the old library from the Town of Harvard. The arrangment was straightforward; the Center would use the building as a community based arts center and in exchange, would pay the Town a modest rent and cover the cost of the utilities. Due to the time consuming process of obtaining our Federal and State non profit status, we have not been able to obtain enough revenue to cover our staff, our programs and the payments to the Town. Hence, we are currently in arrears to the Town for part of our utility and rent payments.
A recent article in the Harvard Press clearly reviewed this dilemma. While the Center is an active, vibrant part of the community, we have faced some financial difficluties due to the delay in obtaining our fund raising status. If you would like to read the full aritcle, it can be found on the Harvard press web site using this link: Center on the Common Article. This issue has been further exacerbated by Harvard's continual interest in the building as a temporary Town Hall. This is our first, and possibly our most decisive fundraising campaign. We hope you can help.
