Originaly born and bred in the heart of edge hill in janet street off wavertree road, L7 where i was brought up to respect and look after our elders as we dont know how long we have them for , I still hold them values to this day I HAVE WORKED IN ALL SIDES OF THE SUPPORT RELATING TO ELDERLY/DEMENTIA/MENTAL HEALTH/ NURSING HOMES, RESIDENTIALHOMES I became totally dispondant and feeling there was more we could to keep our eders happy and content and active, i set up to run a non-funded community centre for the elderly and disabled users, we have an open dootr policy regrads to ability or disability everyone is welcome. our centre has people from all different bacKgrounds, i started the centre when i became very dispondent with the system and the way the system is being is run by the local council,Over a 17yr period i worked in different community settings and when the funding had been withdrawn the centres closed leaving me without a job and another community resourse lost. There are far too many community resources closing due to funding being pulled, we started with very little and out of a little we have created a large community hub, our centre is used by people who now look upon our centre as a second home and have made new friends, they oin in the many activities we provide including educationl courses that we provide free for the community, we have gone back to basics, where years ago no one had much money but everyone was there to help neighbours who had nothing, by puling the community together in a supportive role. we offer a wide range of activities from chair based excercise to boxercise classes/to knit n natter to craftea afternoons to music therapy and drama classes,we also have a benefits advice surgery which runs 2 days a week.we have also a community salon accessibe for the local community who are on a low income, and much more is avaiabe, why not pop in and see if there is a course or a computer class you may want to join.
