Hello all,

This is a fundraiser to assist family and friends in Liberia, who have not (yet) contracted Ebola, but are trying to survive in an economy where foodstuffs, hygiene products, and general supplies are becoming increasing spare and expensive.

This is not a fundraiser to stop Ebola ... there is no cure and only containment policies can do that.  All I can do is try to raise some money, and try to ensure it goes to those that I know are truly in need. I'm not on the ground, I don't have all the intelligence, I can't tell you any statistics. I can tell you that I reached out to some family and friends ... some I have heard from, some I haven't heard back from. But those that I have heard from paint a truly grim picture, where basic supplies are becoming increasingly expensive and aid organizations (along with their "aid") are pulling out daily.

Rev. Philip Simbo of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Liberia has agreed to accept and manage the donations on the Liberian side. In an email to me he provided the following goals and information.

The Vahun and Somalahun Ebola Response will be unique special emergency fund to support congregations and surrounding communities in Vahun and Somalahun in Lofa county. However ,these congregations will be used as bridges to reach their communities with social messages, community mobilization, prevention messages as a means of reducing the spread of this deadly disease. About two thousand people will be served.

The goals of this Ebola response are spread thus:

  1. To provide hand washing materials for the two areas, vahun and somalahun.
  2. Due to the State of emergency in the Country, our people are staying in one   places depriving of looking for food. Hence food is highly needed ever than before for our people.
  3. To provide eight hundred gloves and five hundred buckets.
  4. To engage in massive community mobilization and sensitization in the two areas using our churches and other local churches about Ebola.
  5. Supervise and transport materials bought  for distribution. Liberia is threatened today by the deadly Ebola virus which is spreading rapidly in the country.

If you would like to contribute to help families, innocent children, fathers who constantly worry about the next meal please ... feel free. This started because I shared a personal story about having the ability to help out one of my best friends who is living in fear. If anyone is so moved I can tell you your donation wiill be appreciated no matter what the amount.
