We found this puppy on a beach in Lesvos. She was covered in fleas and ticks and walked with a limp. Like the other stray animals, she slept on the beach and wandered the streets for kind people to give her scraps of food. We discovered that stray animals in Greece often get killed and injured by cars. There are lots of strays and abandonned animals in Greece. Because she was so young, this puppy seemed especially vulnerable. We looked into getting her taken into an animal sanctuary. We contacted the Animal Welfare Society of Lesvos. It turned out that they are overwhelmed with strays. One of their volunteers, called Rebecca, told us the only way we could help this puppy would be to adopt it ourselves. My son Malachy has always wanted a dog and I have always said no. But I knew that without our help the future looked bleak for this pup. Rebecca is very kindly helping to arrange to get the puppy a passport and ship her to England. We have been told the whole process could cost around 900 Euros. We are asking for kind donations from anyone that knows Malachy, or if you have been touched by the story of the puppy we have called Skala.
