On Saturday, May 31, 2014, I completed SAR 101 boot camp with Red Rock Search & Rescue. As I embark on this lifelong journey in search & rescue, I must buy necessary materials to be effective in the field. I need your help! Read on to learn more! Thanks More ...

If you were to tell me five years ago that one day I'd be volunteering to go out into the wild and do search and rescue, I would have recommended that you see a shrink.  But the times, they are a-changin', and so am I.

On Saturday, May 31, 2014, I took a SAR 101 boot camp here in Las Vegas with Red Rock Search & Rescue (RRSAR).  Despite the fact that the physical aspects of the class were challenging (and further despite the fact that I could barely move the next two days), I knew that SAR was about to become a big part of my life.

The decision to volunteer with RRSAR wasn't something I decided overnight.  I read up on the physical and mental demands of the field, asked plenty of questions of my friend & colleague Rey (who is a Sergeant with RRSAR), and mulled the decision over for many weeks.  But now that I made the decision, I'm committed to sticking with it.

Getting myself physically conditioned to handle long searches in the desert and in the mountains is the easy part.  The hard part is getting the money together to get my SAR gear.  Since RRSAR is an all-volunteer organization, we're all responsible for obtaining and maintaining our own gear.  In order to become SARTECH II certified, there is a litany of items that I must have in my SAR backpack.  And that costs money.

I've decided to try doing an online fund raiser to raise money towards getting the gear necessary to go out in the field.  The official list from the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR) is located here: SARTECH II Pack List.

Putting together the necessary items to be an effective SAR field technician is a monumental task, so I'm appealing to my friends and family for help.  Help me gear up to save lives!  Donations of any amount are welcome and very much appreciated.

If you have any questions or you would like to learn more about what I'll be doing, you're more than welcome to email me.  Thank you for your support!
