Toby James was born in June 2013. He was rushed to Alderhey at just 1 day old with a blockage in his bowel. He had to undergo urgent surgery to relieve and bypass the blockage. Surgeons discovered the blockage was due to meconium ileus. Immediately the surgeons suspected Cystic Fibrosis, as 90% of babies with meconium ileus have been found to have Cystic Fibrosis. Tests were carried out and 1 week later the results came back positive. Cystic fibrosis is a life-shortening inherited disease. You can’t catch or develop cystic fibrosis, it’s something you're born with. Cystic fibrosis is a complex disease that affects many different organs in your body. There is currently no cure for cystic fibrosis but it is managed by a combination of physiotherapy, exercise, medication and nutrition. A vest is another form of physiotherapy that can be used as treatment. However, these are not available on the NHS. They cost between £7,000-£10,000. Having a vest will make a huge difference to Tobys daily life and would be a vital part of his treatment. Lung exercises help prevent the thick, sticky mucus in his lungs, from blocking the airways, which can reduce infection and prevent lung damage. Tobys family cannot afford to buy a vest so please help us to raise the money which will help them keep their little boy healthy and well. THANK YOU SO MUCH XxxX
