At the Sedona Swimming Academy we teach kids to swim.  We do this to save lives and build champions in the pool and in life.  Please give a child the gift of swimming lessons this summer.  Your tax deductable donation can save or transform a child's life.

Did you know?

  • Ten people drown each day in the United States*
  • 70% of African American children, 60% of Latino children, and 40% of Caucasian children have low or no swimming ability.**
  • Participation in formal swim lessons can reduce the likelihood of childhood drowning by 88%***
  • Swimming (not by design but by simple economics) remains something that poor kids don't get to do.

The Sedona Swimming Academy is committed to providing low cost, high quality swimming instruction to children ages 6 months to 17 years.  Our 10 level curriulum is a child-focused swimming program.  Our vision is  to provide the opportunity for every child in the Verde Valley region of Northern Arizona to learn to swim and to pursue swimming as sport.  As the "Learn-to-Swim" wing of the Sedona Swordfish Swim Team we draw heavily upon our competitive swimming roots.  In addition to being trained lifeguards, all of our coaches are current or former competitive swimmers.  We hope that many of students will graduate from our program and go on to join our competitive team.

We have three age groups in our program:

Parent & Tot - The parent is in the water with the student. Parent & Tot lessons are for children who are 3 to 5 years old, are potty trained or in swim diapers. This class covers the first 3 stations from our Preschool curriculum.  Focus is on water acclimation, floating and kicking on the stomach and back for 15 feet or 30 seconds without assistance.

Preschool - Lessons for children 3 to 5 years old, must be potty trained, no diapers of any sort, who have achieved level 4 (3 stickers) in the Parent & Tot program. These students are able to float on their stomach and back independently (without assistance) and kick for 15 feet or 30 seconds. At the end of this program students can swim 25 yards Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and 50 feet of Butterfly.  NO DIAPERS, including swim diapers, are allowed.

School age - These lessons are for students 6 to 17 years old, ranging from beginners to advanced skill levels.  Curriculum is based on competitive and lifesaving swimming strokes.  Swimmers advance through ten stations starting with breathing techniques to the final station having learned 6 different strokes, starts, turns and basic water safety.  At the end of the 10th stage, students are ready to go onto the competitive level if they so choose.
