In 2003 when visiting Vanuatu with Jump Start, I glimpsed the tremendous need for literacy materials in this Pacific Island paradise. Seeing the children smiling to receive their first books and coloured pencils was touching. It made me want to help more.

In 2003 I visited Vanuatu with Heidi Dening, founder of Jump Start Foundation.

After participating in the Round Island Relay, we visited a local school, taking with us what later seemed meagre resources for the children - coloured pencils, reading books, rulers and rubbers, writing pads - and saw the absolute joy on their faces, especially when we started reading the story books to them.

Now, on the island of Tanna, Jump Start Foundation has, in 2014, completed the building of a library and it is time to stock the library with fantastic literacy resources for all the children of the community to use.

Jump Start Foundation stands for:

- providing the opportunity for universal primary education

- the empowerment of girls and equal opportunity

- helping communities to help themselves.

This year, I will again be visiting Vanuatu, with my 11 year old daughter Emily, tackling another leg of the Round Island Relay and contributing to the future of the children of Vanuatu by taking reading, writing and teaching materials to communities which would otherwise be withouth.

I need YOUR help to reach my goal of raising $2 500.

A literacy pack for one child costs $50.

By raising $2 500 I will be providing resources for 50 children.

Put your name to a literacy pack by donating $50 or more today.

Thank you for your support!
