Ever since walking the Camino de Santiago, it's been my dream to have my own pilgrim hostel. To welcome tired pilgrims, make soup, rub feet, listen to stories, and send them back out into the world. Turns out, I don't need to go to Spain for any of that.

"Mama! Come snuggle with us!" I slid a last banana-cinnamon pancake into the oven, turned off the kettle and curled up around two of the kids. Steady, cold rain was falling outside and the house smelled like breakfast. We lay there together, snug, warm, safe. I stroked the hair of one, gently rubbed the shoulders of another, and lay there thinking "This is SO much better than my old life, nevermind how much freedom I used to have..."

The one closest to me stirred.

"Mama? How do you know how to love people just the right way?"

"I don't.  But God does, and He tells me.  And when I listen, then I get it right."

"Whoa.  That's deep."

I've always been moved by stories of radical hospitality, sacrifice and bravery.  By the lives of people who have been listening to how they're supposed to love.  Now that my own opportunity for radical love has emerged, I'm realizing one of the things all these people who've inspired me have in common is this: they didn't and don't do it alone.

So that's why I'm here - to ask for help. As of 2/5, I have not two, but three kids in my life who call me Mama. One of them is a ward of the state and we receive financial assistance to help with her expenses.  The other two are not - they're too old to get looped into CPS (Child Protective Services).  They have people in their lives who are kicking in a little bit to help, but it's not significant.

Because our finished garage isn't zoned for habitation and our wee little house is far too small to house all of us, we must move ASAP.

Practically speaking, we need assistance with monthly expenses - rent, primarily. My goal is to raise $800-1000 per month to cover the additional rent and perhaps a few groceries.  We'll also need around $2000 to add to what we already have for a security deposit.  Yes.  California is a very expensive place to live.

Non-materially speaking, to know that there are people who are committed to praying for me and for my kids would be such a support.  I know that when there's enough grace in my life, I can trust for all the rest of it.

Thank you VERY much to those of you who have already responded.  I am grateful for your love.  My heart is full.
