On December 27th, our beautiful 2 year old standard poodle Kevin became violently ill.  He began vomiting at 11pm and by morning was virtually unresponsive. He was quickly transported to our local veterinarian for immediate evaluation.  Their initial concern was that of toxins or disease and that was quickly ruled out.  By 5pm that day, we were recommended to transfer him to the best specialty hospital in Ottawa, Alta Vista Animal Hospital.  X-rays were taken, a barium series were run, blood samples taken.  His blood was that of a healthy dog with slightly elevated white blood cells. His X-rays were inconclusive.  They tried to control his vomiting with anti-emetics and treated him for pain and dehydration.  All signs were pointing to a foreign body  potentially wrecking havoc on his intestines.  Surgery was the final option.  At 3:30 pm, December 28, Kevin underwent exploratory surgery to hopefully locate and remove whatever was causing issues.  They found nothing.  Biopsies have been taken for cytology from his stomach, liver and small intestine.  Kevin is in intensive care now recovering from not only surgery, but a mystery ailment yet to be discovered.

Our family is devastated.  Two days ago, he was a bouncy, fun, healthy young dog right up until he began vomiting.  He's so young and full of life, that he deserves a chance at a proper diagnosis and treatment.

We always have done more than we can to treat our fur babies, but this time, we need not only prayers, but help.  Being that it's only a few days post Christmas, our family was unprepared for any event of this magnitude.  We aren't ready to say goodbye to our beloved boy and are doing all we can to help him.

I've always contributed to fundraising efforts for those in need and was very hesitant to do this, but I'm running out of options.

If you can find it in your heart to help us in any way, we would be forever in your debt.

Kevin is currently being cared for at Alta Vista Animal Hospital in Ottawa.  Anyone feeling hesitant to contribute online may call them directly to assist with Kevin's care 613-731-6851
