We are Mark, Nash, Marie, and Caz - four students from Vancouver, BC. While sightseeing in San Francisco on the last day of an environment and social impact conference, the two rear windows of our rental car were smashed and most of our bags and electronics, including two laptops, were stolen. Vehicle, property, and credit card insurance will not cover the losses and we are forced to individually pay for replacing our stolen gear. In total, the thieves stole approximately $6000 worth of electronics, bags, and other items.

The key items that were stolen include:

- MacBook Air*
- Toshiba Satellite Ultrabook
- iPad Mini*
- Prada prescription sunglasses
- Car key fob
*“Find my Device” feature has not yielded a possible location

Any proceeds in excess of our request or over the replacement cost of our items will be donated to Summer Search. Summer Search, aligning with our own views on the importance of education, “help students in seven cities [including San Francisco] across the country develop the skills and character traits they need to become college-educated leaders who give back to their families and communities.”

We very much appreciate your support and donations!

Further details: We parked our rental car, a red Ford Escape, on the third floor of a security patrolled underground garage at Union Square at approximately 1pm on Sunday, October 27, 2013. Our bags were in the rear hatch and covered with jackets. When we returned at approximately 4:45pm on the same day, we noticed glass on the ground surrounding our car, and that the two rear side windows of the car had been smashed. Upon opening the trunk, we discovered items, mostly electronics and other personal belongings, had been stolen. We immediately filed a report with the parking garage and then went to the Northern Police Station to file a police report. However, as we were Canadian residents and needed to catch return flights home at 7:30pm, we didn't have the time to fill out all descriptions of stolen items and were directed to file an online report. Upon arriving home, we completed the online police report, which has since been officially filed by the San Francisco Police Department.
