My family has established the Mark J. Doty Scholarship Fund for a student at Paden City High School that shows great leadership towards their community. Please help us help others, while continuing to honor my brother, Mark Doty.

As a strong supporter of education and giving back to the community, I believe you will be excited about an opportunity that my family is giving to a student at Paden City High School each year, moving forward.

I have established the Mark J. Doty Scholarship Fund for my brother, Mark Doty, who was tragically killed in an accident on September 18, 2013. My brother was the epitome of a community leader. Mark graduated from Paden City High School in 2003, and went on to Fairmont State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts. He had served the Paden City Volunteer Fire Company for 15 years, since his start there as a junior firefighter in his early teens. But his influence did not stop in Paden City, or even in Tyler and Wetzel counties. Mark won numerous awards for his teaching and development of firefighting education courses. For his work leading West Virginia University's (WVU) Fire Service Extension, he became nationally known; under his leadership, WVU taught approximately 18,000 firefighters across the nation this year alone, taking the fire school to the top 5% in the nation. Among his other credentials, Mark served as the director of the WVU State Fire Academy at Jackson Mill, was elected Vice President of the North American Fire Training Directors, and was a member of the West Virginia State Fire Chief's Association. With his help, the WVU Junior Fire Fighters Camp became number one in the nation. He was also known for working with and helping to acquire grants for fire departments across the state of West Virginia.

My brother was taken from this world too early, and had the heart of a true legend. I want to keep his name alive as long as I can, and want to be able to provide a Paden City High School student with some type of scholarship assistance to help them with their pursuit in education.

The Mark J. Doty Scholarship Fund will provide a student that gives their time to the community an opportunity to qualify for this scholarship. I will have students turn in an essay on why service to others is so important, and how they have helped the community that they live in. The student must be pursuing their college education after graduating from high school.

I hope you will join in this effort to keep my brother’s name alive, while helping students in the local area. If you would rather mail your payment in, you can make a tax-deductible contribution to the Mark J. Doty Scholarship Fund:
