MELANOMA is the deadliest form of skin cancer. There is no CURE!! Rodney was diagnosed with melanoma in March 2011. Our nightmare began. We are experiencing a temporary financial crisis & need your help catching up. Rodney's surgery was complex. ... More ...
This is the most humbling experience in my life. It has taken me months to try to do this. Rodney was diagnosed with melanoma on the bottom of his left foot in 3/2011. We had no idea the nightmare we were in for. Rodney spent one solid month in the hospital. Univ of WA. Anything that could go wrong did. He had no idea he was allergic to Heparin the common blood thinning medication. It caused his body to form clots. One clot broke free from his calf and was in both lungs. The largest clot that the radiologists had ever seen. He coded and was put on a ventilator. One of the worst days of my life! He was able to receive TPA a clot busting medication. He also has an IVC filter in his chest now to stop any other clot. The past 2.5yrs have been hell. Rod has been in and out of the hospital so many times I have lost count. He has had so many medication allergies. He seems to fall into the category of 2% of the patients can get.....and he has. No melanoma medication has stopped the transient lesions on his entire left leg and foot. Recently he was put on a Clinical Trial called PD1. The difference in the growth and size of the lesions is amazing!! Our oncologist from the Seattle Cancer Society has been instrumental in getting Rodney on this Clinical Trial. We know how much time and effort he put into getting Rodney into this trial. Rodney started the PD1 8 weeks ago and gets an infusion every 3 weeks, lab tests done, EKG done, and we see our oncologist. Rodney is doing fantastic!! His body is finally responding to a treatment!! We are so very grateful and happy to have such a great Care Team. I have not been able to work because of all the medication reactions that Rodney has had. A few have been life threatening. Most, actually all the others required a hospital stay. Rodney had to go onto Social Security Disability. Now the two year mark is approaching and he will be on Medicare. We are really struggling financially. Both Rodney and I are extremely private about our finances. But, the time has come for us to ask our friends and family who have asked us how can they can help us beyond prayers. We are behind in our bills by about three months. I have tried to look for jobs from home but to no avail. We are having a difficult time sharing this information with our friends and family. We have always prided ourselves on taking care of our family and lending a hand or money to others. To be on this end is absolutely the worst. We have not spent money frivolously and have not had dinner out in at least a year. The UPS man does not drop off goodies. He is dropping off tons of boxes that contain medical supplies for changing the dressing on Rodney's left leg. We appreciate each of you very much. We know that times are very, very difficult. If you are able to help us a bit financially, that would be great! If not we understand and ask for your continued prayers.
