My Miniature Dachshund, Winny, died on 15th May 2013 at 19 weeks old. Winny was born with a birth defect, a unique spinal abnormality, and fought so hard from the day she was born until the day she passed away. She took her first and last breaths in my arms, exactly where she was meant to.
Through the 'Winny Mini' group on facebook, Winnys story touched thousands from all around the globe and when she died, all those that followed her also grieved deeply.
With your help, I would like to raise money in Winnys memory for the Dachshund Breed Council, to help towards the huge costs of upcoming IVDD research which is to be undertaken by the Animal Health Trust.
Intervertebral Disc Disease (IVDD) is a very prevelant health condtion within Dachshunds as a breed. Even though Winny didn't suffer with IVDD, I feel this is a issue close to all our hearts.
The AHT are currently researching and gathering samples and data, and hope to eventually design a DNA tool that, if used correctly, will help reduce the chances of IVDD in future generations. This will be monumental and also beneficial to all involved in the breed.
Please donate towards this cause if you can, and join in helping Winnys legacy live on by helping the future of the breed x
