In January 2007, Destiny Rodriguez was first diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). During that time she went through months of Chemotherapy and radiation. In 2009, Destiny’s cancer went into remission. Unfortunately for her, the battle was not over. On May 10th 2011, a day after her 10th birthday she was re-diagnosed with ALL. Destiny has been courageously fighting her battle. It has been a rough few months and has been in and out of the hospital weeks at a time. Destiny has been hospitalized often throughout treatment for several complications including pneumonia and infections. She still has a long journey ahead of her, leg shots, spinal taps, and 70 more weeks of Chemotherapy. With the support of family, friends, and the entire community, Destiny will win this fight! Destiny and her family have suffered emotionally and financially from her diagnosis. The family not only pays their share of medical bills not covered by the insurance, they also pay for the prescriptions and the out of pocket cost of staying with a child in the hospital. Unfortunately, Destiny will have a lifetime of medical costs to cover follow-up care. In helping to prepare for this and relieve the financial strain that she will endure well into adulthood we started Destiny’s Helpers.
