HAPPY 6th BIRTHDAY TO DOMINICAN STARFISH FOUNDATION!

First, we would like to say "THANK YOU" to the thousands of supporters who have helped us in the past 6 years.  

I will never forget the day when this arrived in the mail.  There was much rejoicing and within an hour,  we received our first $6000 donation which was also matched by the donor's company!  

Shortly after we received our charity status in Canada, we were blessed to partner with Pal Humanitarian, a registered charity based in  Layton, Utah. Thank you to Pearl Giles and to everyone who has helped through the USA.

Today as the whole world reels with the crisis of COVID-19, we as a united foundation have been raising funds to feed the starving people in the Dominican Republic. This continues to be our current focus. We have distributed over 3500 food packs to hungry families. 

Our goal for our 6th birthday is to raise $6000 to feed 600 families.  

Whereas most of us have food in our homes, most Dominicans do not. Even the ones who had jobs before, now have been laid off. Their economy is so dependent on tourism and of course, there is zero of that. This video is of a friend who had a job in the tourism industry before COVID-19. She was so grateful for receiving some help from donors through the foundation.

As the days go on and the crisis deepens, we continue to do whatever we can to alleviate some of the intense hunger.  

A friend has donated a $100 Amazon gift card to the foundation to have a little prize for our Birthday Donors.  For every $20 donated (the amount to feed a family for 10 days), your name will go in a draw for the gift card.  When you donate and share this site, your name will go in twice. Thanks to our donor and thanks to all of you! The winner can shop from the comfort of home during your quarantine!

In celebrating our birthday we wanted to share some things your donations have helped with in the past 6 years.  100% of your donations go to the projects there.  

Our main focus has become building homes for people--giving them a permanent life change.  These are before and after pictures of our last completed home.

We have also rebuilt a school and built a building for a library.  

Two years ago we opened our beautiful new Starfish Center which is a combined distribution/community center.  It has been utilized so much and is a great blessing in the community of Javillar and beyond.  

We are building a playground for the children of Javillar.  To date, we have purchased the land and built a fence.  We will be raising funds for the playground equipment.  

This year we purchased a building for a new school for Youth Upliftment International.  We have helped to find sponsors for over 70 children who will be attending this new school.  

We have helped 10 students further their education in university and have helped with many additional educational projects. 

We have helped many people who have had medical emergencies.  Usually, we help about 10 individuals each year.  We also assist with supplies for the hospital and host dentists and doctors for humanitarian service.  

We have donated thousands of pounds of clothing and thousands of food packs.  

Currently, our total focus is on the immediate need to feed the hungry.  If you are able to help us celebrate our birthday by helping with this, we would be so grateful.  We are leaving the fundraiser up for 1 week.
