nahanni nergaard-short hasn't added a story.
I'm Nahanni (aka Han),
For the next 3 months, I will be training and raising money for the Downtown Eastside in hopes for me to fight in the annual Beer Wars Boxing tournament hosted by Eastside Boxing Club!
I have been boxing non competitively for the past year. For me, the thought of boxing scared the shit out of me. I, like most humans, have trouble trying new things. If it's not something I already know or am good at, I am terrified of failing. It's a learning curve for sure, but in life you're never going to be perfect. 1. Because perfect is boring. The imperfections are what make you interesting. 2. You are going to fail! You are going to try things that you're not good at. But that is all apart of life and the best thing about it... Is that you're LIVING!
So here it goes ya'll, let's see what I can do!
To be able to do this I need your help!
All proceeds will be going to:
NICCSS- Vancouver Roving Leaders Program
The Vancouver Roving Leaders Program is a flexible, community-based initiative that connects and engages vulnerable at-risk children & youth in the Grandview- Woodlands, Hastings-Sunrise, Renfrew-Collingwood and Downtown Eastside neighborhoods.
GOOD FOOD FOR ALL
Good Food for All seeks to increase access, interest, and knowledge of healthy and nutritious food to improve healthy food security, empower individuals to make healthier food choices, and develop a culture of “ good food ” in communities, schools, and homes.
Eastside Boxing Club
Eastside Boxing Club is a non-profit boxing club in Vancouver's Downtown Eastside. Head coach Dave Schuck and other ESB mentors facilitate free after-school program three times week and the organization works with NICCSS case workers to help introduce youth participants to exercise, and introduce a variety of life skills through mentorship and relationship building. Their mission in the community is to improve lives and build community through boxing. At Eastside they provide programs for the DTES that stem from three social initiatives:
1) ESB after-school boxing program for at-risk youth;
2) young adults’ class for youth, working to improve their mental health;
3) free self-defence series for female-identified, and all members of LGBTTQQ2S.
As of September 2019, the Eastside Boxing Club Youth Program has supported over 600 youth aged 10-20 who predominantly live and/or spend time in the DTES/East Vancouver area.
