Rupert Whiting hasn't added a story.
Hi Guys,
If you have come to this page you probably know me already so I won't tell you much about me, other than the fact that I have always secretly wanted to get in a boxing ring. I am really interested to know if I have what it takes to keep my head while all about me are trying to knock it off.
Aprons for Gloves Restaurant Rumble 2018 is giving me that opportunity. In the process we are raising money to get some of the hardest done by kids you will ever know off the streets of the Downtown Eastside, Vancouver and into the loving, caring, building environment of the Boxing Gym.
All I have to do to survive a 3-month training camp and raise $2,000. That makes me eligible to have the ropes parted and I (possibly) get to climb into the ring.
I have no idea who I might be fighting yet but I am assured that it will be a match-up worth watching. Three one-minute rounds sounds like a doddle but I can assure you, it is NOT! Not when they ugly fella opposite is aiming at your chin.
I have left it later than most to find this out, I'll be 46 come fight night but as Meat Loaf said "You'll never be as young as you are right now!" Carpe Diem and all that jazz!
So, please help me to tick this one off my bucket list and to help the kids along the way. Any kind of donation will be hugely appreciated. If the initial training is any indication, I may be back next year for more, but let's get this bout over with first, eh?
MANY THANKS to my hospitality sponsors, Steveston Barbers and Fuggles and Warlock Brewery - Check out my video for a small plug for Fuggles.
DISCLAIMER: This is an amateur boxing event and I need to find a 40+ fighter who is approximately in my weight class and where our abilities are not too far apart. I am told that there's a good chance we will find a match up but please support me regardless of whether I fight or not. The kids don't care if I fight, and they need your support either way! I certainly don't get to fight if I don't raise the money Thanks for your generosity and understanding.
Founded in 2012, Aprons for Gloves Boxing Association is a non-profit organization focused on providing community outreach through the sport of boxing. Based in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the organization was developed by a small group of professionals and entrepreneurs who seized an opportunity to re-establish a historic boxing program for at-risk women and youth. The program offers free mentorship and training to individuals who may otherwise not have the resources or support to participate in such activities. The sport of boxing teaches discipline, respect, hard work and self-control. Training results in positive self-esteem, good health and camaraderie for its practitioners.
Restaurant Rumble 2018
Every year bartenders, chefs, dishwaters, servers, baristas and all sorts of individuals from the Gastown community get together to train at the Eastside Boxing Club to fight in Restaurant Rumble.
In order to attend training, each fighter is required to raise $2000 for charity before they can compete at the Rumble.
