Last week our volunteer Clarissa Schill reported that she saw a couple of dogs who were shot death on her way back to her hostel at STEP Africa.
We have tried to find out reasons for that action and the numbers of dogs, but nothing is confirmed yet. Various source told us a death toll of 8 and according to some villagers Jens met today they got killed due to population control.
We are convinced that the only way to do that should be by castrating/sterilizing the dogs and prevent all the unwanted puppies, but so far Mbwa Wa Africa is not having the resources to conduct a spay /neuter campaign, however we are currently working on a proposal for this.

The good news is that during the investigation our friend Omari got in contact with Mama Baraka who’s is also living in the area.
One of her 6 dogs gave birth recently and she asked for help as she is not able to feed them all. She would like to keep 2 of the adults and asked if we can try to re-home the others. All of the dogs are very friendly, a bit shy at first, but were asking for more ears scratching as soon as they got comfortable with us. Mama Baraka also agreed that the dogs should get spayed and neutered. Compared to Europe this is a relatively cheap operation and we always use our Veterinary Lieve Lynen from Merlino Vet Clinic to do it, but it isn't affordable to most Tanzanians.
As MWA is currently not having the possibility to take the dogs in we have left a bag of food with Mama Baraka and kindly ask our friends and followers to sponsor the operations (TS 175,000 or 104 USD/85 Euro per sterilization) and / or food till we have succeeded to find new homes.
