There are no owners to help puppy ZENA or little OLIVER, two dogs whose back legs were tragically paralyzed. These adorable dogs need wheeled carts and therapy so they can move again and be like normal dogs.
OLIVER and ZENA came in, a month apart, to the poor, rural Delano, CA, Police Dept. Animal Shelter with injuries so severe that neither could move their back legs. It was heartbreaking and the dogs were so sweet. Zena was just a baby and Oliver was so small and cute. Volunteers begged for the dogs' lives, so they would not be euthanized.
Now volunteers are begging for funds so both friendly dogs can have
wheeled carts and do what dogs like to do -- run around, play and
sniff -- and have happy lives. - Though they are already happy just to
be alive!
The amount we need to raise right now will pay for a cart
for Oliver and for initial consults with rehab specialists to
determine treatment plans and options for both of them.
FROM MAGGOTS TO MOBILITY
ZENA is a sweet black labrador mix puppy. She was found
abandoned in August. Her backside was infested with maggots that were
eating her alive because she was soaked in her own urine. She could
not move her back legs. She had been hit by a car and then dumped
along with two litter mates (who were not injured). Zena now is 6
months old. She recently was fitted with a temporary, loaner cart, one
in a series of carts she may need until she is full-grown and can have
a permanent, customized wheelchair cart. Zena now needs physical
therapy to help her back legs relax into a better position and she
needs rehab to keep her over-used front legs stable. Zena has a
consult scheduled with a rehab Vet and rehab team to fully assess her
mobility, adjust her temp cart if need be, and explore rehab options
for her. You can see in the video below that Zena's world is very
exciting to her with the bonus of being able to move!
FROM JAWS OF DEATH TO HOPE FOR RECOVERY:
OLIVER is a young adult Chihuahua who had huge puncture wounds
when he was found by Animal Control. A large dog had bitten Oliver and
had shaken him, hard. The shaking caused a fracture to Oliver's lower
back. Oliver still has some sensation in his hind legs. It is hoped
that with use of a cart and with physical therapy Oliver may regain
some use of his back legs. He may still need a cart for going on long
walks, but may be able also to regain some independent mobility.
Oliver is so small that he needs a custom lightweight, x-small crate.
You can see in the video below that he is thrilled with the idea of a
cart! He just needs one that fits him!
Zena and Oliver are two of the sweetest, most trusting dogs
you will ever know. Please help improve their quality of life by
helping them get the care and mobility they need.
The amount we are trying to raise right now is to cover the
purchase of a cart for Oliver and for initial consults with rehab
specialists to determine treatment plans for both dogs.
ALL
FUNDS WILL GO DIRECTLY TO OLIVER and ZENA'S CARE and TREATMENT.
